Viking Energy Wind Farm Proposals

Viking Wind Farm
Landscape Sensitivity and Capacity Study for Wind Farm Development
Application Letter to Shetland Council

Update as of 8/10/2010
Viking Energy Partnership submitted its application to the Energy Consents Unit of the Scottish Government. The Energy Consents Unit validated the application prior to the statutory adverts being placed by Viking Energy Partnership.

The Energy Consents Unit carried out consultations with the statutory consultees, including Shetland Islands Council.  At its meeting on 15 July 2009 Shetland Islands Council decided that the Council’s response to the Energy Consents Unit on the application would be the subject of a full debate by the Full Council.

The Council is scheduled to debate the proposal on 14 December 2010.

Viking Energy Partnership previously submitted additional information to the Scottish Ministers in the form of a Planning Statement. This, together with responses made by Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) and the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) to the Scottish Government’s Energy Consents Unit’s own consultations, has been regarded as ‘additional information’ under the process being followed. This ‘additional information’ was the subject of further public consultation.

The applicant has now submitted an Environmental Statement (ES) Addendum and an Updated Planning Statement to the Scottish Ministers. The Updated Planning Statement is supplementary to the ES Addendum. The ES Addendum and the Updated Planning Statement should be read in conjunction with the original submissions and the additional information set out above. These documents are set out below.

The ES Addendum is the subject of further statutory public consultation and the Scottish Government should receive representations on the ES Addendum by 19 November 2010.

The Updated Planning Statement, together with the ES Addendum that is the subject of this further consultation, and which now also forms part of the Viking Wind Farm proposals that are the subject of the consultation the Shetland Islands Council has received, together with the previously submitted additional information, are available here.

The Energy Consents Unit Website includes the relevant legislation, more detail on the process and a web page for submitting comments. Contact details for any queries on the process etc. are:
