Shetland Islands Council, Integrated Children's Services Gear Up for National Learning Disability Week

Youth Services will be celebrating National Learning Disability Week on Monday 18th June by holding an information sharing day to raise awareness of the issues facing children and young people with learning disabilities in Shetland.  Nadia Dedman, Inclusion Officer invites all Parents, Carersand Professionals involved with young people with additional support needs to come along to the Bruce Family Center anytime between 9am - 5pm on Monday 18th June and give their support.  The day will include information from the Scottish Consortium for Learning Disability, C.O.P.E,  NHS Shetland, Contact a Family & Enquire.  Representatives will also be present from:ENABLE,(Scotland's leading organisation for children and adults with additional support needs), Shetland Childcare Partnership, Shetland Pre-School Play Association & Disability Shetland.


This year's theme is "Equality, not just a duty!"   As well as raising awareness of what it means to have learning disabilities, this information sharing day will highlight that if we all work together we can try to build a more equal Scotland where people with learning disabilities are respected.
