Road Permits

Apply for a road occupation or road works permit

You must get a permit from the Council if you want to carry out work in or occupy a public street. If you do not get a permit, your illegal road works can be prevented by SIC Roads. To get a permit, you or your agent must employ an Approved Contractor.

In addition, before you apply, you must make a Plant Information Request of the site in which you plan to commence Road Works, to check if there is any utility company or other private apparatus under the road.

If you apply for a road occupation permit you are legally obligated to take into account statutory notice periods. Our statutory guidance page tells you about the likely time scales needed to process applications, as well as your notification duties after your permit is granted.

You can apply for a road permit by downloading one of the application forms form this page and returning it in person or by post with your cheque payment.

Charges will depend on the type of permit you have applied for and the length of time you will need to do your work. Full details of charges are included within each relevant application pack.

We have a graph of the process available for download.
