Contractors

Before a contractor commences work for the Council they must meet the following liability insurance criteria:

 

Public Liability Insurance:

All contractors are required to provide us with evidence of Public Liability insurance of no less than £5,000,000, regardless of the value of the contract. They must provide us with this evidence before commencing work for the Council.

 

Employers' Liability Insurance:

If a contractor has any employees, they will also require Employers' Liability cover of no less than £10,000,000. If this cover is applicable to the contractor they must provide us with this evidence before commencing work for the Council.

 

Professional Indemnity Insurance:

There may be occasions where a contractor's services involve providing advice. These contractors would require Professional Indemnity insurance. The level of cover required will depend largely on the value of the contract.

 

Documentation we require:

Any one of the following:

  • Current policy schedule
  • Letter or other formal documentation from the contractor’s broker detailing cover
  • Letter or other formal documentation from the contractor’s insurer detailing cover

 

 

 

 

 

 

Details required on the documentation:

Name of the insurer

Cover must be with a reputable insurer.


Policy Number

Required for reference purposes.


Name of the insured

This should match or include the name of the business that was awarded the contract.


Period of Insurance

This should show a start date and a renewal date.Some documents may only show a renewal date.The document must indicate when cover commenced or state that cover commenced with effect from, for example, the date of the letter.These dates must, at least, cover the period of the contract.
