Shetland Islands Council Social Forum

Shetland Islands Council Social Forum was set up to involve more effectively the users of Community Care Services and their carers in actual service planning, and to bring together the various different agencies involved in Community care in Shetland.

These include Social Care, NHS Shetland, Housing Services, Education Services, Voluntary groups, stakeholder groups, services users and their carers.

Such partnerships and public consultation require cross-departmental working and inter-agency co-operation.

The role of the forum is:

  • To ensure that the Council facilitates and understands stakeholders' views on matters relating to services for children and young people, community care, education, cultural, leisure and housing services. The Forum will provide recommendations to the Executive Committee on policy matters pertaining to these areas.
  • For the purpose of this Forum, children and young people shall be considered to be anyone under the age of 25 years in need of care or assistance from the local authority and/or partner agencies involved in delivery of children and young people's services.
  • For the purpose of this Forum, community care shall be considered to include any area of services to client groups coming under the Community Care plan agreed by NHS Shetland and the Council as defined by government guidelines.
