Financial Assessment

Deciding to move into residential care unit is a major decision and it is important to make the right choice.

If you think that either yourself or a loved one may need to move into residential care and need help to take that step, find a suitable home, help with fees, or advice on the other services available in your community, contact Social Care on 01595 744400.

Ask for the leaflet "Thinking about moving into a care home". This leaflet gives general guidance, and is available from Social Care. Further information is also available from the Scottish Government, Community Care Division, St. Andrew's House, Regent Road, Edinburgh EH1 3DG tel. 0131 244 2658.

We publish two leaflets on Financial Assessment. The purpose of a Financial Assessment is to work out how much of any residential accommodation charge will be paid by the Council, and how much will be paid by you, and is assessed on your ability to pay. To work this out, you will need to give details of your income, your savings and in some circumstances what property you own.

If you are planning a period of temporary care in a residential home, an assessment is needed each time before you stay.

If your stay is permanent a financial assessment needs to be made before you accept a place.

If your circumstances change while you are in care a new assessment will be made.

Social Care employs a Financial Assessment Officer to conduct these assessments.

The social worker will ask her to contact you and arrange a visit to your home.

Charges are reviewed annually.
