Social Care Services
Social Care Services in Shetland
Many people in Shetland will have contact with Social Care at some point in their lives. This could, for example, involve a relative with a disability attending a care centre, an older family member in need of support to stay at home, or a child or young person in need of support or protection. We also provide support for individuals who have mental health problems or have substance dependency problems,, as well as offenders, ex-prisoners and many other vulnerable people in our community.
Social Care support services in Shetland are provided through a variety of agencies, including the Council's Social Care Service, voluntary and charitable organisations, the private sector and self - help groups. One of our main aims is to provide care and support services that are fully integrated, well co-ordinated and user friendly.
The following pages contain information about the work that we do, and explain where to go for further advice and assistance.
You can go to the information you are interested in by using the links on the side menu bar. All services are provided on the basis of assessed need. A practitioner will have an in depth discussion with an individual to ascertain what is going on for that person and see how we as a service can best meet their needs.
