King Erik House

King Erik House is a Very Sheltered housing scheme for "vulnerable" people. It occupies a central location and is close to all amenities.

Its aims are to help tenants remain as independent as possible.

Each flat is self-contained and tenants are encouraged to be as self-sufficient as possible, but there is also a communal lounge on the first floor and a fully equipped laundry. Guests can be accommodated in the guest room which can be booked through the manager and is free of charge.

This helps encourage tenants to maintain links with family and friends whilst developing their independence. A Community Care Assessment is completed for each tenant before admission and each will have their own individual Care Plan. Services are flexible and tailored to meet individual needs. The aim is to promote daily living, respecting the rights and dignity of tenants, ensuring the maintenance of their independence and choice, and to encourage involvement in all aspects of life in King Erik House.

Staff are always available to discuss any concerns or worries. The Community Alarm service is available 24 hours a day. If a tenant is assessed as requiring the support of a Community Support Worker, care hours are purchased from the Welfare Trust.

Tenancies are "secure tenancies" whereby tenants have the same rights as other housing tenants but cannot purchase their home. The rent comprises a basic rent plus a service charge (to cover a percentage of the costs).

Housing Benefit is available to those with limited income.

An application for this scheme is made through either Social Care or Housing Services.
