Services for People with Physical Disabilities
Physical disability means any restriction or lack of ability to undertake an activity in the way considered normal for most people. Such disabilities range in severity from mobility difficulties; reaching, stretching and dexterity; personal care; eating, drinking and digesting; communication; seeing and hearing.
The social inclusion of people with physical disabilities in the wider community, enabling them to live as independently as possible, is one of the main aims of Community Care planning.
This includes involving individuals and their carers when decisions are made about help, so that they can have a real choice of lifestyle, including work, leisure, accommodation, training, security, and independence. Person-centred services are required to meet a range of individual needs.
Services currently available include:
- four places at Montfield Hospital
- respite care at Montfield Hospital
- occupational therapy services.
- physiotherapy
