Three versions of inheritance scam letter

A number of Shetland residents have received letters claiming to offer them the chance to claim an inheritance from someone with the same surname who is said to have died in an accident in China. This is a scam. The picture on the left shows how the scammer is simply altering the name. You can read the full letter here, and our press release here.

Scottish Tobacco Retailers RegisterFrom 1st October 2011 all tobacco retailers must be registered with the Scottish Government - selling tobacco without being registered will be a criminal offence.


The Scottish Government holds the register, and there is no requirement to pay a fee.

You can check the public register now to see if your business is listed - if not, then you can register online, download the registration form to fill in and post to the Scottish Government, or phone 0131 244 2169 to get a paper form sent out to you.
