Tobacco - under 18s onlyYou have to be 18 or over to buy cigarettes or any other tobacco product.

It is illegal for someone under 18 to attempt to buy tobacco products.


It is also a criminal offence to buy tobacco products for someone under 18.

Volunteers test purchase leaflet
Trading Standards advise tobacco retailers on best practice to avoid selling tobacco to young people under 18, but also put them to the test with the help of 16 year old volunteers.

The Trading Standards Service is registered with the Millennium Volunteer Award scheme run by Voluntary Action Shetland, so time spent helping us with tobacco test purchasing (including your travel and training time) can be used to earn MV awards.
