Shetland Recycling Initiative
Shetland Recycling Initiative (SRI) was set up in February 1999 as a means of co-ordinating recycling initiatives within Shetland. It originally consisted of Shetland Islands Council and Shetland Amenity Trust. In 2005 COPE Ltd was added to the group because of its high profile in supporting recycling through the Shetland Scrapstore and Furniture Recycling Centre.
In 2008 the Shetland Recycling Initiative launched a new accreditation scheme to encourage local shops, businesses and other organisations to use, manufacture or sell recycled goods. This is designed to promote the sale and use of recycled goods throughout Shetland and make it easier for the general public to identify recycled goods through appropriate signage.
Businesses are welcomed to apply for the accreditation which acknowledges and rewards their efforts with additional publicity, a certificate, promotional stickers and the use of the Shetland Recycling Initiative logo on company transport, web sites and letterheads if they so wish.
To qualify for the award businesses have to meet minimum standards for recycled goods. Please follow the links to the criteria and application form:
The aim of this accreditation is to offer a scheme to raise the profile of Shetland businesses working in the recycling field, either through recycling materials or through offering recycled content goods for sale to the public.
