Business Advice

There is an increasing burden on businesses to consider and address environmental management issues impacting on their business.  This is due to:

  • new and tightening regulatory controls
  • rising material, energy, water and effluent costs
  • supply chain pressures
  • changing green consumer preferences
  • industry and environment standards
  • international and UK environmental strategies and policies.

By addressing these issues businesses will be able to increase their efficiency, gain competitive advantage, ensure compliance with existing and future environmental legislation and have the ability to make use of emerging environmental markets.

The Shetland Islands Council's Environment and Resource Management Unit offer free waste audits to businesses in Shetland to help them address their waste and provide information about the range of services available in Shetland to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle waste. For information on this or on the benefits of introducing an environmental management system contact the Environment and Resource Management Unit on 01595 744850 or e-mail recycling@shetland.gov.uk For information on other business schemes and services offered by our department then follow the links in the bottom side bar.
