The Gremista Waste Management Facility was completed in April 2006.

On site there is a sorting shed for the treatment and transfer of waste away for recycling and energy recovery. There is also a modern sanitary landfill meeting today's standards for operational controls and the containment of waste. The site also incorporates a recycling centre for depositing and recycling household waste.
The opening hours for members of the public using the site are:

8 am - 8 pm |
Saturday and Sunday |
9 am - 5 pm |
Householders can dispose of all household waste free of charge. The following can be recycled:

Location
From Lerwick, just past the Power Station turn right into the road to Shetland College/Greenhead/Dales Voe. Follow the road for about one mile until you see the chimney of the Energy Recovery Plant on the right. The Gremista Waste Management Facility is on the left.
