Fair Food
This is one of the eight Improvement Projects. The aim is to move Shetland towards being an Equitable Food Community.
This project is being delivered in conjunction with Shetland Islands Council’s Food Growing Strategy. The purpose of this is to help communities across Shetland to access affordable, healthy and environmentally sound food. It recognises the role of the Council in supporting individuals and communities to improve access to land for the purposes of growing food; to help create opportunities for people to grow their own food and support the increase of skills and knowledge in growing, cooking and eating healthy food.
There are many reasons why increasing opportunities for people to grow their own food is a good thing:
