Severe Weather Disruptions

The Met Office has issued an AMBER Weather Warning of Snow from 1500hrs on Wed 17th to 1800hrs on Thu 18th January 2024

"Further frequent, occasionally heavy, snow showers will affect the Northern Isles and northwest Scotland through Wednesday evening and Thursday with an additional 5-10 cm of snow likely, and the potential for a further 15-20 cm of snow in a few locations

"In addition strengthening northerly then northwesterly winds will cause lying snow to drift."

Power outages and damage to poles or cables should be reported by calling 105 or using the Power Track App

The public are urged not to approach any fallen power lines.

Where else to look / listen

BBC Radio Shetland (92.7 FM) will be on air with the lunchtime bulletins at 12.30pm and in the evening bulletin at 5.30pm. In the morning, any school closures in Shetland may be broadcast on BBC Radio Orkney (also 92.7 FM) from 7.30-8.00am.

SIBC (96.2 FM) carries regular messages on morning decisions of school closures over the breakfast period. Messages of closures during the day are normally included in all news bulletins.
