Nutrition award for Brae High former pupil
A former pupil at Brae High School last week received an award for her studies from The British Nutrition Foundation (BNF) at an event in London.
Jenna Mowat won a BNF Drummond Education Award for her Advanced Higher Health and Food Technology last academic year, as the student with the highest mark in Scotland for her Advanced Higher dissertation.
The Awards seek to promote interest in, and awareness of, good practice in food and nutrition and to recognise and reward the achievements of outstanding students and their teachers.
Jenna’s dissertation was on the subject of “Why does obesity continue in Scotland and what improvements can be done to prevent obesity in both children and adults.” She completed her Advanced Higher studies largely by remote learning, through a link with Perth UHI and tutor support by email.
Jenna and her former teacher Holly Williamson attended the Awards last week at the Royal College of Physicians in London, where Jenna received her certificate and £100 prize, and Holly accepted £200 on behalf of Brae High School.
Jenna has now left school and is now studying for an HNC in Childhood Practice at Shetland College UHI.
Logan Nicolson, Head Teacher at Brae High School said: “This award from the BNF is well-deserved recognition of the work that Jenna put in for her Advanced Higher studies in S6. Her award is all the more remarkable for completing her course almost entirely by remote learning with a tutor based in Perth.”
