Operational note – Energy Recovery Plant upgrade

Operational note – Energy Recovery Plant upgrade

The Energy Recovery Plant at Gremista, Lerwick, is having major upgrades installed which will increase the plant efficiency, heat output and operational lifetime.

The upgrades are expected to take around 10 weeks to install and commission, and the Plant will be shut down during that period. There will be no disruption to the Lerwick District Heating scheme, which will continue to operate as normal.

The work is scheduled to begin on 30th July and last until mid October 2021.  Deliveries of waste by regular customers should be made to the Gremista Waste Management Facility.  For waste going to the processing shed the hours are Monday to Friday 08:00 – 16:00 and Saturday 08:00 – 11:00.

Disposal of confidential waste will not be offered while the upgrades are being carried out.  Customers can contact the Plant to be placed on a wait list, and they will be contacted when the service is available again.  Please contact erpadmin@shetland.gov.uk, or phone 01595 745160.
