Volunteering

Volunteering can be magical!

Giving up the time to help others is one of the most rewarding things you can do in life. Although you don't get financial payment, the experience of helping to bring joy and achievement to others can be completely priceless. Studies have also shown that volunteers are among the healthiest and happiest people in society!

Volunteers are at the heart of all Active Schools programmes in Shetland. Over 90% of our activity deliverers were doing so in their own time. They include parents, teachers, coaches, students and senior pupils. Together they provide around 2500 activity sessions each year!

If you would like to help young people get the most out of sport and physical activity there are dozens of ways to get involved. We have opportunities to suit everyone whatever your interests , availability or experience. There are a number of roles available from coaching and administration to supervision and more.

Active Schools volunteers are given guidance and support including:

  •  Access to training, including National Governing Body qualifications in specific sports and generic training such as First Aid
  •  1 to 1 support from Active Schools Co-ordinators
  •  A PVG check paid for by Shetland Islands Council
  •  Lots of high fives and gratitude from children and parents!

If interested, please complete the Volunteering form.

If you would like to get involved, please contact your local Active Schools Coordinator for more opportunities in your area.
