Sports Development
Sport is an important part of the cultural identity of Shetland. With outstanding facilities, coaches, volunteers and athletes; Shetland clearly has a proud sporting heritage.
In order to support the development of Sport within Shetland, Sports Development focuses upon both the development of the individual through sport, as well as the development of sport itself. We support the development of clubs, athletes, coaches, and a variety of volunteers from across the community.
This is achieved through the strategic planning and delivery of the Shetland Sport Strategy, which focuses upon enabling Shetlanders realise their potential through sport. In order to do this we work in partnership with a variety of Shetland based and National organisations in order to develop the provision of quality sporting experiences ranging from introductory foundation level experiences through to support for elite opportunities.
We work with many organisations in order to provide a cost effective, high quality service that meets the needs of the sporting community. Our partners include:

We also work with Sports Governing Bodies through the network of Regional Development managers to support clubs, associations, athletes, and volunteers.
Sports Development Can support in the following ways
- Does your club/Association need support regarding governance, development planning, structuring?
- Does your club/Association want to look at accessing funding opportunities?
- Does your club/Association want to get involved in coach education, or training for volunteers?
- Is there an athlete who requires support?
