Discretionary Housing Payment
A Discretionary Housing Payment is a short term payment awarded to people who need help paying their rent and in order to qualify they must receive Housing Benefit.
The amount of money that the Council can spend each year is limited. Consequently, each application is assessed for priority, which due to demand means that only high priority cases will qualify for Discretionary Housing Payments.
As Discretionary Housing Payment is an application based scheme, we cannot award a Discretionary Housing Payment without a completed application form.
An award of DHP is paid in the same way as your Housing Benefit.
