Solid Fuel Heating System Precautions
If you burn coal or peat in your home you should:
- To avoid fires keep your chimney clean. This should be carried out at least every six months for coal and more regularly for peat when in use.
- You as a tenant are responsible for ensuring that your chimney is regularly swept.
- When burning peat we suggest that you burn coal once every month to clean the inside of your fire, this will help to reduce condensation in the chimney.
- You should clean the throat plate to your fire at least every month.
- For any heaters or heating systems that use solid fuel, you should check the operating instructions for which types of fuel are suitable.
