Community Conversations

Help shape the Council’s priorities for the coming years

Join us for an informal chat about your ideas for supporting and improving local services.

Have your say on the future of your community

Over the coming months, we’ll be hosting a series of community drop-in sessions around Shetland — a chance for you to meet your local councillors, the Council’s political leaders and Chief Executive, and share your thoughts on what matters most to your area.

These conversations will help us plan for the future, update our Corporate Plan, and make sure our priorities reflect what’s most important to individuals, families and community groups across Shetland.

What to expect

Each session will run from late afternoon to early evening, so you can drop in whenever suits you. You’ll have the chance to:

  • Chat informally with councillors and staff about your ideas and concerns

  • Hear more about the challenges and opportunities facing local services

  • Share what helps your community thrive and what wellbeing looks like for you

We’ll be focusing on three simple questions:

  1. What helps your community to thrive?

  2. What role should the Council take in making that a reality?

  3. If your community is a place of positive wellbeing – what does that look like for you?

A message from Maggie Sandison, Chief Executive

“We’re keen to hear directly from people in every part of Shetland about what’s most important to you.

These sessions are informal — a chance to drop by, chat with me and elected members, and share your thoughts on what makes your community thrive, and how the Council can best support that.

If you can’t make your local session, please do come along to another or email us your views. Every contribution helps shape the Council’s plans for the years ahead.”
