Lerwick

LERWICK BAPTIST CHURCH 

  • Cuppa’s at Quoys every Tuesday morning from 10am – 12 Noon.

  • For access to free second hand clothing for children, and free items to help people through the winter (such as blankets, duvets, hot water bottles and thermos flasks).  Open by appointment only. Call  0800 0308780 to access.

SHETLAND LIBRARY 

  • It is free to join and use the library service. The public library in Lerwick is a warm, welcoming and free community space where you can spend time. There are various seating areas where you can read, study, use your laptop, meet friends or take part in activities. We offer free use of computers and WiFi, and staff can assist you. It is free to borrow books, eBooks, audiobooks and tablet computers. If you can’t get to the public library we also offer home delivery, a mobile library, and access to our school/community libraries in Brae, Unst and Yell.

  • Late night opening until 8pm Mondays and Thursdays.

ABILITY SHETLAND

  • Ability Shetland offer a variety of clubs and recreational opportunities across Shetland such as sports, relaxed physical activity and arts and crafts. For more information please contact abilityshetland@shetland.org

THE CEDAR CENTRE

  • The Cedar Centre, on St Magnus Street, Lerwick, is open as a drop in, 10am - 3pm on Mondays and Thursdays. For tea, coffee, crafts and company. Contact frankmiller2@hotmail.com for more information

THE HUB

  • Mondays and Wednesdays at the Hub (for 14-26 year olds) at 66/68 Commercial Road from 8.15pm – 10.30pm with refreshments and food.  For more information contact: stewart.hornal@shetland.gov.uk 

60 NORTH

  • Friday Drop in (Secondary 1 and above) at Sandveien Neighbourhood Centre from 7.30pm – 10.15pm with refreshments and food. For more information contact:  stewart.hornal@shetland.gov.uk

THE RECOVERY HUB

  • The Shetland Recovery Hub & Community Network provides a drop-in service and one to one support for people who are experiencing problems due to alcohol or substance use, along with support to families and loved ones.  The Hub offers people access to a range of different services all under one roof.   At the Recovery Hub and Community Network, there are drop ins on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday between 2-3.30pm. We are also open on Thursday evening between 6pm-9pm. Come in for a hot cuppa and a warm welcome. Come play games or try some new crafts or for a break from the weather and some company.

CLICKIMIN LEISURE COMPLEX

  • The Clickimin Leisure Complex has a swimming pool, Jacuzzi, flumes, leisure waters and health suite and sauna. There are two gyms, an indoor cycling studio, sensory rooms, bowls hall, squash courts and a large indoor training facility. Additionally there are spaces which can be used for events and meetings and viewing areas for relaxing in. Food Culture Café also runs out of our premises.

    All of our facilities are available at slightly different times but our reception is open Monday to Friday 0700-2200 and 1000-1900 at the weekend.

SHETLAND BEFRIENDING SCHEME 16+ SERVICE

  • Tea & Cake at Islesburgh 3rd Friday of the month unless otherwise stated. A free group for people to meet, eat cake, chat and make new friends. For more details contact Ian Edwards 16+ Development Worker 01595 743964.

SHETLAND LINK UP

  • Shetland Link Up is a warm and welcoming drop-in for people who suffer and are recovering from mental ill-health. You can chat, make friends, join a game of dominoes, pool, scrabble etc if you wish but with no pressure to do so. Support is available and help to access other services and resources.  To join Link Up you can be referred or self-refer, or to find out more contact us on 01595 693313. Bressay

SPLEDIBURN COMMUNITY HUB

  • Speldiburn's warm, welcoming cafe is open throughout the winter on Fridays from 11 am to 3pm and on Saturdays we serve breakfast rolls from 9.30-11 am after ParkRun, then lunches and homebakes from 12-3pm.   • Use our electric charging points and wifi and look for a bargain in our Good as New Shop. Speldiburn also sells affordable local cards, art and crafts. 
  • We run a dementia friendly Social Afternoon for Bressay residents in conjunction with the Red Cross on Wednesday afternoons from 2-4 pm, everyone welcome, but we have a focus on those who find it hard to get out and socialise. Free hot drinks and tab nabs and free use of books from the Good As New Shop. Contact us or Lerwick Red Cross if you need transport

We can also issue emergency electric and heating fuel vouchers to anyone in fuel crisis. The Hubs are also a Social Space where you will always receive a warm welcome. Scalloway, Burra & Trondra

THE SCALLOWAY POOL

  • The Scalloway Pool is situated next to the Scalloway School. It has a main pool, toddlers pool. whirlpool and steam room. The spectator gallery overlooks the pool and offers a place to relax and enjoy a coffee. We run a varied programme of activities and try to provide something for everyone no matter your age or ability – we look forward to welcoming you.

  • The North Mainland Leisure Centre is situated in Brae and boasts a swimming pool, lagoon area, fitness suite and steam room. We also offer numerous courses run by our enthusiastic team of instructors from learning to swim and circuit training, to gymnastics and football. We also offer birthday party hires and the all-weather Midway astro pitch can be hired from us too, ideal for football or hockey.

WEST MAINLAND LEISURE CENTRE

  • The leisure centre is situated in Aith next to the junior high school and public hall. It has a swimming pool, with a separate toddlers pool, spa pool, steam room and sauna. There is a fitness suite, climbing wall and a games hall where you can play football, hockey, badminton and a variety of other sports.
  • Visitors to the centre are able to sit in comfortable surroundings in the foyer area and enjoy a snack with a hot or cold drink whilst viewing activities in the main hall.

South Mainland

SOUTH MAINLAND POOL

  • The South Mainland Pool is situated next to the junior high school in Sandwick. The facilities include a pool, toddler pool, jacuzzi and steam room. We offer a range of activities, from children's fun sessions to adult only sessions and from aqua-aerobics to children's swimming classes. The pool is also available for private hire out with opening hours, and is a popular venue for birthday parties.

Unst

UNST LEISURE CENTRE

  • The Unst Leisure Centre is the most northerly leisure centre in Britain. It has a 12.5 x 5m pool with lagoon, games hall, squash court, gym, studio, viewing balcony with a pool table, a football table and also various vending facilities. Outside there is a multi-court and a full size grass football pitch accompanied by a training pitch. There are various programmes of events and classes that run over the year.

Yell

YELL LEISURE CENTRE

  • The Yell Leisure Centre is situated in Mid Yell beside the Yell Junior High school. When visiting the centre you can choose from a wide selection of activities including; Swimming, Gym, Squash, Badminton, Table Tennis, Football, Basketball, Carpet Bowls. On the viewing gallery you can enjoy a game of Snooker or buy a cup of tea or coffee and watch the activities in the hall. We also have an Outdoor Football Pitch which is open from May to September.

CULLIVOE COMMUNITY LUNCHES

  • The Cullivoe Hall and North Yell Development Council run a free community lunch every Tuesday during term time 12noon - 2pm. 
  • Takeaways available and dietary restrictions catered for if informed of in advance. Each week we offer a free two course meal, access to local support services and a wonderful opportunity to socialise.

Whalsay

WHALSAY LEISURE CENTRE

  • The Whalsay Leisure Centre is situated centrally in the island at Symbister, a five minute walk from the ferry terminal. There is a swimming pool, gym, community room and outdoors, a flood-lit all-weather playing field. We also have a viewing gallery with a pool table, seated area and vending machines where visitors can spend time relaxing. We have an extensive range of activities, courses and clubs so please get in contact to find out more.
