Shetland Mid-Market Homes was constituted in 2025 to provide quality homes to the mid-market rental sector to meet market needs in Shetland.

Mid-market rent offers a rental option that is targeted at low to moderate income households and offers a rental that is lower than private rent but higher than social rent.  It offers a rental opportunity for those that are priced out of owner-occupation or private rent, and who do not demonstrate sufficient housing need to be offered mainstream social housing. 

It can be targeted at particular sectors or income levels to support and encourage the working age population and is particularly attractive for younger people in employment who are otherwise excluded from access to the housing market.  Potential benefits of this being assistance with recruitment and retention of population.  Providing high quality homes at mid-market rents is one way to address high housing demand and tackle homelessness.  Shetland Mid-Market Homes aims to let our properties in a fair and consistent way.

Shetland Mid-Market Homes LLP is set up as partnership between Shetland Islands Council and Scottish Futures Trust Investments Limited (SFTi) to deliver private residential tenancies as an affordable housing option in Shetland.
