With this week’s cold spell expected to continue into the weekend, Shetland Islands Council is reminding drivers to take extra care on the roads.
Dave Coupe, Executive Manager – Roads, said: “In the next few days, freezing conditions are expected to continue across Shetland. Road surface temperatures are forecast to drop overnight to as low as minus eight degrees Celsius in some places.
“At these low temperatures and with the current reduced traffic volume on the roads, road salt cannot be guaranteed to keep the carriageways clear of ice. During this particularly cold spell, we’d ask anyone travelling on the roads to take extra care"
