Deadline for EU Settlement Scheme

Eu settled status reminder

The deadline for applications to the EU Settlement Scheme is now less than a month away.

The Convener of Shetland Islands Council, Councillor Malcolm Bell, is urging anyone who may still be unsure of the process to check their status, and apply if necessary by 30th June.

Even if you’ve lived in the UK for many years, you’re married to a British citizen, or have a permanent residence document, you still need to apply.

If you are an EU citizen who was living in the UK before 31st December 2020, you and your family members need to apply, and children, including newborn babies, also need an application made for them – they’re not automatically covered by their parents’ application.

Malcolm Bell says:  “We are proud that people from across Europe have chosen to make Shetland their home.  They enrich our community and we hope they will continue to feel at home here for many years to come”.

Applications should be made on the UK Government website  If you don’t have access to a computer, you can call the UK Government’s We-Are-Digital service on 03333 445 675.
