Shetland Islands Council and NHS Shetland are pleased to announce that Brian Chittick has been appointed as Director of Community Health and Social Care.
Mr. Chittick will also take up the role of Chief Officer for the Shetland Integration Joint Board – the body established to oversee the integration and delivery of health and social care services in the isles. The appointment follows a joint recruitment process by both organisations, and Mr. Chittick will take up his new post on 1st August 2021.
Mr. Chittick has been Interim Director since July 2020, carrying out the full range of duties for the post, although his main focus has been on leading the Shetland COVID response for health and care. He has worked for NHS Shetland since joining the organisation in 2015 as Senior Dental Officer; prior to that, he had a long career in clinical and medical roles within the Royal Navy.
Council Chief Executive Maggie Sandison: “Brian has a proven track record in delivering safe and effective health and care at both a strategic and operational level, and has over 25 years of experience of working in the public sector. He has been an exceptional contributor to our management team over the past year and has led the health and social care teams through some very difficult times. I’m pleased to welcome him into the role and look forward to working closely with him in the future.”
Chief Executive of NHS Shetland Michael Dickson: “I am delighted that Brian has been appointed, following a rigorous recruitment process, and we can continue to rely on his expertise and leadership as we start to recover from the pandemic.”
