Convener Malcolm Bell will host the Ambassadors of Norway and Sweden to the UK at a civic dinner at Lerwick Town Hall this evening.

His Excellency Wegger Chr. Strømmen, Norwegian Ambassador the UK, and His Excellency Torbjörn Sohlström, Swedish Ambassador to the UK, will attend a civic dinner at Lerwick Town Hall this evening.

They will be accompanied by Mr David Windmill, Norwegian Consul General in Edinburgh, and his wife, Mrs Christine Windmill, and the two Ambassadors’ wives - Rev Dr Cecilie Jørgensen Strømme and Ms Helena Vazquez Sohlström.

This will be the first civic event at the Town Hall since the start of the pandemic, and steps have been taken to ensure compliance with current Covid-protection guidelines.

Malcolm Bell said: “Shetland has well-known historical and cultural connections to our Scandinavian neighbours. During their short visit to Shetland, I’m very pleased to be able to host Ambassadors Strømmen and Sohlström and Norwegian Consul David Windmill at Lerwick Town Hall.  I look forward to our discussions and to reaffirming the long standing alliance between our communities.”
