Operational Note – Weather Disruption, Storm Arwen

Stormy weather Lerwick

With high winds across Shetland, associated with Storm Arwen, there has been some impact on Council services today.

Foula and Fair Isle Primary Schools didn’t open this morning.  Ollaberry Primary School will be closing at 1pm today.  The Eric Gray @Seafield centre will also be closing at lunchtime.

Public bus services are continuing to operate, although Service 24V for the North Isles is cancelled due to ferry disruption. Services continue to be under review, with updates available on the Bus Voicebank on 01595 745744.

Inter-island ferry services have been widely affected, with all ferry services suspended for the morning.   It is likely that many services will continue to be disrupted this afternoon and anyone intending to travel should check the relevant ferry voicebank for the latest.

The Met Office has a Yellow Warning of Wind in place for Shetland until midnight tonight.

A wind speed of 67mph was recorded this morning at the Met Office Observatory in Lerwick.
