Shetland Islands Council is inviting anyone that wants to contribute to tackling climate change to attend an online Shetland Climate Conversation Workshop next week.
Shetland has a high carbon footprint compared to the national average, partly due to the isles’ location, climate and geography. These workshops invite participants to come together to find ways to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and to adapt our infrastructure to tackle the impacts of climate change.
Information gained from the workshops will be fed into the Shetland Net Zero Route Map and the development of a Climate Change Strategy for Shetland.
Climate Conversation workshops have recently been held with community groups and organisations across Shetland, to hear concerns and to gain insights into addressing climate change in Shetland.
The Climate Conversations are a series of workshops hosted by Ricardo Environmental Consultants, alongside the Council and Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), funded by the Scottish Government’s Rural Communities Testing Change fund.
The Shetland Climate Conversation workshop will take place online via Zoom on Thursday 07 April, starting at 7pm.
Registrations are now open through this Zoom link
The Climate Change Workshop is being held during the pre-election period for the forthcoming Scottish Council elections. Current elected members and candidates for election do not have a formal role at the Workshop and election campaigning will not be permitted.
