Somerset-based author Gill Oliver will speak about her new book 'Joe Faber and the Optimists' at the Shetland Library next week.
Gill’s novel, inspired by her husband’s recovery from a stroke and his desire to travel to Shetland to attend a family event, depicts the day-to-day impact the recovery has on the whole family. There is heartbreak and absurdity along the way in this entertaining novel, but humour is Joe’s family’s greatest asset in the drive to get Joe back on his own two feet.
Gill Oliver said: “It’s been a long-standing dream of mine to bring Joe Faber and the Optimists to Shetland. It's such an inspirational place for writers and musicians, and plays an important role in the book. I’m thrilled and grateful to the Shetland Library for making it happen.”
Marghie West, Adult Services Librarian at Shetland Library said: “We’re pleased that Gill will be visiting the library to speak about her latest book. Although the book deals with a serious and important topic, the story is presented with a light touch and filled with humour.”
Gill Oliver will introduce her book Joe Faber and the Optimists at Shetland Library, Lerwick on Thursday 18 August 2022 at 7.00pm. Copies of the book will be on sale.
