The nomination period has been reopened for any remaining vacancies to community councils, after yesterday’s disruption to electronic communications and postal strike.
Nominations for election to Shetland’s Community Councils closed at 4pm yesterday, Thursday 20 October 2022. The Returning Officer will declare all valid nominations received by the deadline as duly elected, and a Notice of Uncontested Elections will be published on Monday.
However, the Returning Officer is aware of the severe disruption to electronic communications yesterday, compounded with the postal strike, which may have impeded the ability of some to submit their forms on time. The Returning Officer has decided to re-open nominations to allow potential candidates an opportunity to submit valid nominations for any remaining vacancies only, until 4pm on Monday 24 October.
The following Community Councils have achieved their full complement of nominations required by the deadline yesterday and no further nominations will be accepted:

Nomination forms can be delivered to the Elections Office at 8 North Ness, Lerwick, or sent by email – which must be a scan or a photo of a signed nomination paper – to returning.officer@shetland.gov.uk
