Shetland West residents are being reminded to register to vote ahead of the SIC Shetland West Ward By-election that will take place on Thursday 17 November 2022.

Residents must be on the electoral register if they wish to vote on Polling Day.  Poll cards have been delivered to those already registered, and with the deadline to register to vote fast approaching, anyone not registered at their current address is urged to make sure they are registered in time.  The deadline to register to vote for this by-election is midnight on Tuesday 1 November.  It takes just five minutes to register online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

The deadline for registered electors to apply for a postal vote is 5pm on Wednesday 2 November, and for a proxy vote the deadline is 5pm on Wednesday 9 November.  For further local guidance on registering to vote or applying for a postal or proxy vote please contact the Electoral Registration Office at 20 Commercial Road, Lerwick, Tel 01595 745700 or by email ero@shetland.gov.uk

Postal voters are reminded that, with planned disruptions to postal collections and deliveries as a result of industrial action over the next couple of weeks, completed postal packs for the by-election should be returned as soon as possible to avoid missing the deadline on 17 November.  Voters can also hand in their completed postal pack to any polling stations in the West ward on polling day.  You can contact the Elections Office Helpline with any queries on 01595 744066.
