With some fresh snowfall overnight and cold conditions forecast to continue, schools in the North Isles, North Mainland, and some schools in the West Mainland will be closed today.
Schools CLOSED today are:
- In the North Isles – Baltasound Junior High School, Mid Yell Junior High School, Whalsay School, Cullivoe and Burravoe Primary school.
- In the North Mainland - Brae High School and Ollaberry, North Roe, Urafirth, Mossbank, Nesting and Lunnasting Primary Schools.
- In the West Mainland – Aith Junior High School and Happyhansel and Sandness Primary Schools.
All other schools across Shetland, including those in the Central and South Mainland, will be OPEN today.

If weather conditions deteriorate during the day and any Head Teachers decide to close their school early, school staff will contact parents directly with further details.
For pupils at Anderson High School and Sound Primary School, there is no school transport through Gulberwick.
Early Learning and Childcare settings will be open, unless their associated school, listed above, is closed. Isles Haven Nursery and Hame Fae Hame Nursery will be open today.
Secondary pupils attending schools which are closed, especially those in S4, S5 and S6, are encouraged to log on to MS Teams for remote learning and support from school staff.
Skills for Work college courses are cancelled today – S4 pupils should instead attend their school if it is open.
