Lerwick Town Hall will fly the Union Flag for the Coronation of The King and The Queen Consort at Westminster Abbey on Saturday 6th May 2023.

Andrea Manson, Convener of Shetland Islands Council said: “On behalf of the people of Shetland, I’d like to offer my warmest congratulations to His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen on the day of their Coronation.  This is an important moment in our nation’s history and I am sure many in Shetland and further afield will celebrate this joyous occasion.”

Bobby Hunter, Lord Lieutenant of Shetland, said: “His Majesty has spent a lifetime in public service and championing so many deserving causes.  Many will remember his previous visits to Shetland, including his most recent visit just two years ago when he opened the new Lerwick and Scalloway fishmarkets.  His Coronation as Sovereign, and that of Her Majesty The Queen, will be a spectacle for all to enjoy and a day of great celebration across the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.”
