*** Update 25/08 - these works are POSTPONED. A new date will be announced when confirmed.

Ferry crossings to and from Fetlar will be for foot passengers only on the weekend of 7th-12th September 2023 to replace the linkspan at Hamars Ness.

Shetland Islands Council will carry out this essential maintenance from 1945 hrs on Thursday 7th September until 0600 hrs on Tuesday 12th September 2023, weather permitting.

During this time, the service to and from Fetlar will operate for foot passengers only with access provided via gangway from the vessel to quayside in Fetlar.  An alternative timetable will operate on Bluemull Sound during this period, which will be published in the week beginning 21st August 2023.

On Thursday 7th September the last service to take vehicles out of Fetlar will be the 1940 hrs sailing to Gutcher, Yell.   The last service to take vehicles into Fetlar via Unst will be the 1905 hrs sailing from Belmont; and the last service to take vehicles into Fetlar directly from Yell will be the 1655 hrs sailing from Gutcher.

While these works take place, anyone with restricted mobility may not be able to safely board and disembark the vessel using the gangway at Fetlar.  Anyone needing to travel during this time is asked to contact Ferry Services on 01595 744200 to discuss this, before traveling.

After these sailings, the service between Hamarsness to Gutcher, and Hamarsness to Belmont will be foot passenger only over the weekend.  A full RORO service will operate between Belmont, Unst and Gutcher, Yell for passengers and vehicles.

These works are part of an ongoing linkspan replacement programme, that has previously seen work take place at other ferry terminals operated by Shetland Islands Council.

Shetland Islands Council would like to apologise for any inconvenience that these essential works may cause.
