Some schools closing early due to snow

Some schools closing early due to snow - Tues 6th Feb

Schools in the North and West of Shetland are closing early for pupils today due to snow and difficult road conditions.  

** Update 1.30pm **  - Whalsay School will close at 2pm; Skeld Primary School is closing early; and Tingwall Primary School will close at 2.30pm.  Some buses will leave early for Anderson High School pupils who live in the North, West and Central Mainland.

As at 12.15pm, Brae High School, and primary schools at Lunnasting, Mossbank, North Roe, Ollaberry, Urafirth and Whiteness are all closing early.  Nesting Primary School will close at 1pm and Aith Junior High School will also be closing at 1.30pm.  Schools have been contacting parents to collect children early.   

Snow has fallen increasingly this morning from the north of Shetland, with heavy snow showers across the North Mainland and North Isles particularly.  The Met Office has this morning also extended the current warning for Snow and Ice for the North of Scotland until 12 noon tomorrow (Wednesday).

Council gritting crews are out, applying winter roads treatment and clearing snow across the roads network where necessary.   Anyone planning to travel by bus today is advised to check for any travel updates on the public bus voicebank – 01595 745744.
