Bressay ferry linkspan works: Fri 24th - Mon 27th May

Ferry passengers are reminded that planned essential maintenance will take place at the Bressay ferry terminal at the end of next week, Friday 24th - Monday 27th May. 

Contractors working for Shetland Islands Council will carry out major structural works on the linkspan at the ferry terminal at Maryfield, which will be out of use during the period of the works. 

From 1900 hours on Friday 24th to 0600 hours on Monday 27th May a restricted timetable will be in place, for bookings only.  The service will operate for foot passengers only, using a gangway at Heogan Pier in Bressay and the RORO ramp at Lerwick Ferry Terminal.  Passengers should be aware that the gangway and the stairs on board the vessel can be steep.    The restricted timetable can be found on the Ferries timetable page  

For bookings, please contact the Booking Office on 01595 745804 - opening hours are Monday to Saturday 0800-1700 and Sunday 0800-1300 (On Sunday 26th May Booking Office hours will be 0800-1700).

  • The 1845 hours sailing on Friday 24th May will be the last service to take vehicles from the Maryfield Terminal at Bressay to the Lerwick Terminal.
  • The 1900 hours sailing will be the last service to take vehicles from the Lerwick Terminal to the Maryfield Terminal at Bressay. 

After the 1900 hours sailing, the service between the Lerwick Terminal and the Heogan Pier will be foot passenger and bookings only, operating to the alternative timetable. 

There will be no parking available at either the Maryfield Terminal, Lerwick Terminal or Heogan Pier.   Space at the Maryfield Terminal will also be used as a working site before and after the weekend of 24-27 May.  Details of the restrictions on the car parking and the dates affected can be also found on the weblink above.  

A free bus service will operate between Heogan Pier and the Bressay Public Hall for the duration of the works.  Parking and welfare facilities will be provided at the Bressay Public Hall.

The regular RORO service will resume to the normal timetable from the Maryfield Terminal, Bressay at 0700 on Monday 27th May, weather permitting.

This is the latest in a series of scheduled works affecting linkspans across the ferry network, with work already completed at Skerries, Vidlin, Laxo, Symbister, Gutcher and Belmont.  

Shetland Islands Council apologises for any inconvenience caused by these essential works.
