Work has begun on the harbour upgrade at Grutness Harbour, meaning that the pier will be unavailable for the next few months.

Until further notice the Fair Isle ferry service will operate two scheduled runs per week to Lerwick on Tuesdays and Thursdays, bookings only.  The vessel may operate occasional extra runs, subject to weather and operational needs, and the Voicebank will be updated with details

Deliveries for goods to Fair Isle can no longer be made to the store at Grutness.  Goods should be delivered direct to the vessel during each call at Lerwick or as otherwise agreed with the Master or the Fair Isle Ferry Booking Office.

Public Bus Service 6 (Lerwick to Sumburgh), which is scheduled to call at Grutness on weekday mornings, will not serve Grutness during the period of the works.

For latest information on sailings, passengers should contact the Fair Isle Ferry Booking Office on 01595 760363 or check the Fair Isle Voicebank on 01595 743978 which will be updated regularly.

These infrastructure works are part of the Fair Isle ferry replacement project, that will see a new ferry built and harbours upgraded at Grutness and in Fair Isle.  The anticipated total cost of the project is £45.4M, funded by £18.6M from Shetland Islands Council and grant of £26.8M from the UK Government.
