Inter-island flight operations will continue to operate to/from Sumburgh Airport until Monday 9th June, so that marking and lining can be completed on the runway at Tingwall Airport.
Since work began earlier this month, the resurfacing of the 805-metre runway has now been substantially completed. It will however take a little longer to complete the runway lining, which requires a window of dry weather for markings on the new asphalt surface, before the airport can reopen to flights.
A decision has been taken to extend the work period for another week, so this work can be completed. Flights to Foula and Fair Isle will continue to operate from Sumburgh during this time.
Tingwall Airport is owned by Shetland Islands Council, with inter-island air services operated by AirTask Group Ltd under contract to Shetland's Regional Transport Partnership, ZetTrans.
