It was hoped to complete lining and marking on the newly-resurfaced Tingwall Airport runway this week. However, continued unsettled weather means this will need to be delayed for another week.
A decision has been taken to extend the work period for another week, so this work can hopefully be completed. Inter-island flights to Foula and Fair Isle will now continue to operate from Sumburgh until Monday 16th June.
Tingwall Airport first opened for flights in 1976. This recent work is the first time that the full length of the runway has been resurfaced, so that flight operations can continue for years to come.
Tingwall Airport is owned by Shetland Islands Council, with inter-island air services operated by AirTask Group Ltd under contract to Shetland's Regional Transport Partnership, ZetTrans.
