This year’s Outdoor Clothing Swap Shop, organised by Shetland Islands Council’s Sport and Leisure service and RSPB Shetland, will take place next weekend.
Last year’s event saw around 400 people through the doors, taking clothing to kit out themselves and their families for winter, including jackets, waterproofs, boots, hats, scarves and gloves. The free event is open to all and hopes to redistribute unwanted outdoor clothing, with the aim of removing barriers to nature this winter.
The Swap Shop will take place on Sunday 16th November at the Gilbertson Park Games Hall in Lerwick between 11am and 2pm. Several local organisations will be in attendance to offer information and advice, and local firm Garriock Brothers Ltd are kindly supporting the event by providing free tea, coffee, fruit and biscuits.
Donations are still being accepted this week and can be dropped off at the ‘Kit for All’ drop bins located at Shetland Recreational Trust leisure centres and swimming pools. All donations should be in good, clean and wearable condition.
Louise Jamieson, Active Schools Manager with Shetland Islands Council, said “We were so happy with the positive feedback on the Outdoor Clothing Swap Shop last year, that we simply had to run the event this year. Donations have been coming in thick and fast again, and we’re looking forward to seeing plenty of folk on Sunday. Please come along and take away some clothing for your family so everyone can enjoy the great outdoors - even when the weather isn’t so great.”
