Shetland Library is holding three events next week to celebrate Book Week Scotland 2025 – the annual national celebration of books and reading, from 17-23 November 2025.

Shetland Library will take part in the celebrations by hosting the launch of “Seabirds and Seals: stories from 25 years of wildlife guiding around the Shetland islands of Bressay and Noss” by well-known local author Jonathan Wills.  The event is being held in the auditorium of the Shetland Museum and Archives on Tuesday 18 November from 7pm to 8.30 pm.

On Wednesday 19 November from 7pm to 8.30pm, Shetland Library will host an Open Mic evening, celebrating ‘friendship’ – this year’s Book Week Scotland theme.  Everyone is invited to deliver anything connected to the theme in any format – a poem, chapter, song, flash fiction, etc.   It can be an unpublished work or a published piece, but it should be no longer than 5 minutes.  All are welcome – even if just to enjoy listening.

On Saturday 22 November from 2pm to 4pm, Shetland Library will hold a drop-in session “A Cuppa and a Good Book” sharing tips about starting and running a book group and showcasing the Library’s  Book Group book sets, multiple copies of books for use by books groups, which is a great way to meet friends.  Anyone interested is invited along for an afternoon cuppa, a book and a chat.

Marghie West, Adult Services Librarian at the Shetland Library said: “I am delighted that the library can showcase the joy of reading, sharing of books and the written word through these Book Week Scotland events.  We hope friends, old and new, will come along to celebrate with us.”

Notes for Editors
