Operational note – Take care in wintry weather

Black gaet junction in the snow - Jan 2026

Heavy snow showers are set to continue into tomorrow, with an Amber alert issued by the Met Office between midnight tonight (Fri) and midday tomorrow (Sat) for snow and ice.

While gritting crews have been operating today, and will be out again tomorrow, drivers are being asked to consider whether they need to travel over the next 24 hours as local conditions may well be hazardous with high winds and extensive showers expected.

In the meantime, we’d ask people to continue to check in on relatives and vulnerable neighbours in the community.  Anyone who is vulnerable with an urgent need is asked to contact Duty Social Work on 01595 744468 (during office hours) or 01595 695611 (out of hours).

The latest weather warnings can be found on the Met Office website
