The Shetland Climate Festival will be held on Saturday 5th September with a new performance zone, a repair café, and a series of workshops and talks.

Now in its fourth year, the festival aims to raise awareness on climate matters in Shetland, as well as offering energy saving advice, recycling tips and practical steps for householders, businesses, and community groups.

The event will be at Clickimin from 10am until 4pm, with different zones addressing key questions such as ‘What is climate change from a Shetland perspective?’, ‘What can I do in my community to help?’  and ‘What business and employment opportunities are available?’.

The performance zone will include poetry readings, cookery demonstrations, and a Woodland Walk exhibition. Schools across Shetland are being asked to make a creative tree featuring their climate promises. This is part of the Council’s School Climate Roadshows project and visitors to the festival can view them on the day.

At the repair café people can bring items of clothing and textiles and learn how to mend them themselves. The community project has been hosted at the Blyde Welcome café in Lerwick with donations to the Shetland branch of Alzheimer Scotland.

Anne Maver is a Senior Climate Change Officer with the Council’s Climate Change Strategy Team. She says: “We are excited to host the festival again this year. We had a great turnout in 2025 with about 400 visitors and a range of exhibitors.

“Planning is well underway, with some new elements for September. Our cookery demonstrations will be championing local produce, and we really hope folk come away from the festival with lots of ideas. We look forward to sharing more details in the coming months.”

A full programme will be made available on the Council’s climate change webpage www.shetland.gov.uk/climate-change
