The Council's Roads Service is aware this morning of an oil spill on the A970, south of the Black Gaet junction, and asks drivers to take particular care on this route.
The oil spill, which is of unknown origin but appears to be diesel, has affected the road surface in several areas. After overnight rain, the road surface may be slippery and potentially hazardous for vehicles.
There are also reports this morning of a similar oil spill in the North Mainland, through Brae and towards Toft. It’s not clear if the two spills are related.
Council staff have placed warning signs at various points and deposited sand across the road surface on the worst affected areas, at bends and at junctions.
