Shetland residents are being encouraged to take part in a quick and anonymous lifestyle survey to help shape future priorities for improving health and wellbeing across the islands.
The survey is being carried out by the Active Shetland working group, which includes representatives from Shetland Islands Council, Shetland Recreational Trust, NHS Shetland, Ability Shetland, Cycling UK, ZetTrans and sportscotland.
The group previously undertook a lifestyle survey in 2021 to better understand physical activity levels, barriers to participation and attitudes towards being active. The findings informed a range of community initiatives over the past five years, helping increase opportunities for people of all ages to be active and supporting the aims of the Active Shetland Strategy.
The new survey will help the group assess progress, identify current opportunities and challenges, and ensure future action reflects the needs of local communities.
There are two surveys available: one for adults (18+) and one for children and young people. Both are anonymous and take only a few minutes to complete.
Louise Jamieson, Active Schools Manager at SIC Sport & Leisure service says: “Since our last survey, we've seen some fantastic examples of community-led projects and partnership working helping people to be more active across Shetland. To make sure we're focusing our efforts where they can have the greatest impact, it's important that we hear directly from local people about their experiences, views and activity levels.
“Whether you're very active, occasionally active or not active at all, we'd encourage everyone to take part. Every response will help us better understand what helps people be active and what barriers still exist.”
The surveys will be open from now until mid-November.
Adults who complete the survey can also choose to enter a free prize draw to win a NorthLink Ferries return trip for two people, including a cabin.
