New Recovery Hub and Community Network to support anyone affected by drug or alcohol issues

Extra support is now available for anyone concerned about their own, or someone else’s, alcohol or drug use. The new Recovery Hub is based in Lerwick, though will be working in support of people right

The Hub’s focus is on giving people the opportunity to work together, with each other and with support services, to minimise the harm caused by drug and alcohol use. One element of the service in the future will be the chance to drop by the Hub’s offices in Pitt Lane for a chat regarding the support available. That isn’t possible at the moment due to the current restrictions, but Amanda Pearson, the Project’s Manager, is available by phone or email for anyone who is seeking support.

Amanda says the hub’s work will be guided by the experiences of those involved: “It is important that anyone who comes forward looking for support is treated with care and respect. The Hub’s aim is to give people the tools they need, supported by other agencies and the community’s own network, to minimise the harm they may be facing, and to get the right help at the right time.

“It is important that we all come together to recognise the stigma and harm which is all too often experienced by people who use alcohol or other drugs. Everyone has strengths and gifts which can be supported and built on to benefit the whole community.”
