Consultation on proposed extension to Scord Quarry

Two public meetings will take place in the next month to outline proposals for an extension of the Scord Quarry near East Voe, Scalloway.  Shetland Islands Council is proposing an extension to the existing roadstone quarry, that would measure 4.94 hectares in area, situated to the north-east in the area of the south end of Outnabreck Hill.

Meetings with a public display of the proposals will take place at Scalloway Public Hall, from 3pm to 8pm, on Monday 23rd February and Monday 2nd March 2026.

Interested parties and the general public are invited to attend, where staff from the Council’s Roads Service will be on hand to discuss the proposals and to take comments.  Comments or queries can also be e-mailed to roads@shetland.gov.uk

Join the Shetland Climate Conversation Survey 2026

Shetland Islands Council is continuing its climate conversation – with the launch of its second climate change survey.

People are being invited to give their views on things like transport, health and the environment and how these are linked to climate change. The six-week survey is open until 9th March.

It asks people what their top three priority areas are for tackling climate change, what people are most worried about when it comes to climate change affecting Shetland, and what people are doing at home to help.  The survey follows on from the Council’s first Shetland Climate Conversation Survey in 2021 and provides the chance to see if the community feels differently about climate change than five years ago.

The survey is available online at https://www.shetland.gov.uk/climate-change/climate-conversation-survey/1  Paper copies are available from Council Headquarters at 8 North Ness.
